Five Minutes In The Mind of Jay

I once had a taxi driver who was of the Sikh Religion. I asked him why He believed what he believed in. His answer was like most people who are part of (and practicing) a religion; he said "I want to get closer to God." I responded with this "what if I told you that there is an easier way to see God then to perform religious rituals? What if I told you I hear from God and you could to?" Sounds crazy to most, but not to anybody who is religious or believes in some kind of God. This includes a Muslim, Sikh, Buddhist, Jew etc because there is an expectation that there is a day coming that they will see God (of some sort) face to face. Whether that's after they die or; through some type of spiritual enlightenment whilst they are alive. There is a huge difference between Christianity and other religions; it's the promise of encountering God now. Also how you view Him now, will determine how you see Him in the next life (not in a fanciful way); and it...

Manipulating God; Fooling yourself

Image
I love God's Word; the Bible. There has always been a lot of debate in the Christian world about certain teachings like what people call The Prosperity Gospel. For those of you who don’t know what this teaching is, it’s something that goes along the lines of using certain parts of God’s Word, the Bible, to ‘claim’ blessing and all types of prosperity for yourself and your life. For instance, taking the promise of God being my provider to get myself a new car, house or for money to appear in my bank account through the chanting of a specific bible verse such as Philippians 4:19 “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Some of you may ask “where’s the problem in that?” or some of you may be saying “yup! I claim this promise all the time!”. Others of you may be saying “yes! This is the prosperity gospel! What about all the poor Christians in the world??”. Well, here’s the problem. Without going into depth of the bible verse (ex...

God? Where are you?

Image
I am writing this article because one blogger used half of proverbs 25:2 to explain why sometimes we don't hear from God. Although it was true, it also wasn't the complete picture.   “It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, But the glory of kings is to search out a matter.” Proverbs 25:2 NKJV The other blogger pointed out only the first part that it’s the glory of God to conceal a matter, which is true. But this scripture tells me that, God conceals things as part of who He is, but He also loves His people to search Him out. Ever wonder why kids love hide and seek? He hides, but the expectation is that you will find Him. And since now, we are a royal priesthood; I can only assume that we are kings ourselves (Jesus of course is the King OF Kings).    Of course, the common challenge we face is that we tell ourselves that sometimes God ‘feels’ distant and He doesn't seem to want to tell us anything, especially when we most seek an answer. This was also...

Submission; That dirty word

Image
To most people (especially Westerners) the word submission is a word synonymous with brutality and encroaches on their freedom. But I’ve found out the brilliance behind it when it relates to God.  I’ve been reading Pastor Steve Murrell’s (and son William’s) book ‘ The Multiplication Challenge’ and I have found myself heavily critiquing my own leadership style due to the deep wisdom that fill its pages. I’ve also loved how it’s directed me to go deeper into how Jesus lead His disciples. At the end of the day, leadership can be brought down to something simple (even though the application is not). Mark 10:45 says it best; “ but whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant. 44  And whoever of you desires to be first shall be slave of all. 45  For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”. It’s in that death (the ransom), that Jesus was then resurrected to the highest position that anyo...

“Build their faith”

I learnt an amazing lesson the other week about how God likes to build people’s faith. Believers or not. The Holy Spirit has been keeping me busy over the past 4 months (hence the low number of blogs), but it’s been amazing learning just how God loves to see the gospel preached. Jesus said     “I told you (who I am), and you do not believe. The works that I do in My Father’s name, they bear witness of Me.  If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me; ” Jesus also said “ If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me; 38  but if I do, though you do not believe Me, believe the works, that you may know and believe that the Father is in Me, and I in Him.” (John 10:25, 37-38).  Jesus loved to back up what He said with works. Now I am not just talking about ‘good deeds’, I am talking about works like healing the sick, raising the dead, turning water to wine and giving sight to the blind. And here’s the story of how I realise...

Healing And The Measuring Of It

Sometimes the healing process that God takes us through can actually feel like open heart surgery without the anaesthetic. When you became a believer in Jesus, you began on a journey of deep healing. It’s hard to escape and Jesus is committed to it. One of the great benefits of Jesus shedding His blood is that it means that God can fully address your brokenness (humanities brokenness: Romans 8) at the very root of the issue. It is a life long process and at times the pain from the healing process can often make it feel like you are going backwards and not forwards. This is a process that God by His Spirit began in you and it’s not a process that you can finish yourself. Ever heard that scripture “ ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,” says the Lord’? It’s from Zechariah 4:6 and God is talking about the building of His temple. Well, we are now the temple in which He lives and He is still committed to building His temple (you!) by the power of His Spirit and not by y...
